The Name Game

I can’t believe how hard it is to come up with a girl’s name. When we were pregnant with Kade we had the name Ella Mia Roth picked out, which means “my Ella” in Italian. My grandmother, Ellen Kraus, is the most influential person in my life and we wanted to name our little girl after her, but Kade turned out to be a boy and Ella went in the vault for the next pregnancy. Now Ella is a VERY popular name, and although it holds a special meaning for us we can’t let our little girl go to school with the same name as 5 other girls in her class, not to mention 3 of her second cousins. So the name game begins. Kyle and I have basically disagreed on every name out there. He likes old-fashioned names like Amelia, Evelyn, Abigail, and Charlotte, and I like short, cool names like Meg, Remy, and Ellis, but we have managed to come up with our top 3:

Mia Bella Roth (my beautiful “girl” in Italian, instead of the original “my Ella”)
Liv Ellen Roth (at least we got the Ellen in there)
Brynn ? Roth (this is if we have a little blonde because I can’t imagine a blonde Mia)

I am still undecided on giving her the additional middle name of Kraus, my maiden name. Kade has two middle names, one being Kraus. My father only had girls so this was my way of passing on our name, but I don’t know if I should do it for all my children or just Kade.

So the moral of the story is, we won’t know her name till we see her, and even then it might end up being something other than our top 3. Hey, that’s what happened when I was born so maybe this is just destiny.
