I Didn’t Get the Memo

Excuse me, but I never received the memo stating that today every parent in the entire city of Cleveland would be going to the zoo. Nobody told me, but if they had I definitely would have stayed home. We woke up to a beautiful, warm, sunny day so Kade and I decided to forgo the usual playground outing for a nice trip to the zoo. I figured, hey it’s a Wednesday – yes, it’s beautiful weather, but the zoo should be relatively empty. Boy was I wrong. We are zoo members, and go on a regular basis, but I have never, ever seen a crowd like they had today. We left at 11:30, got there at 12:00 (the usual 1/2 hour trip), but didn’t park until 12:30 – that’s how bad the traffic was once you got there. Thank goodness we packed a lunch because we were both starving once we got inside and the line for McDonald’s was about a 1/2 hour wait. Kade was completely out of sorts since we had to use a different entrance, but once he started to recognize where we were and see some animals he perked right up. It turned out to be fun anyways, but Kade didn’t get to see much since the crowds were pretty large. It didn’t matter to him though. He was so happy to get to see the seals swimming and talking and playing with each other. I actually think they have surpassed the elephants as his favorite. All in all it was a good day, but I really hope that the next time they plan a city-wide zoo outing I’ll know about it ahead of time…
