Do You Mind?

I am watching my SIL’s little girl for the rest of the week while she is vacationing in Vegas (I know, I know – I deserve a medal of honor, but don’t forget that I too will be vacationing in Punta Cana in less than 3 weeks). She is really a good kid, but she’s only 2 months older than Kade so when they team up they can be quite a handful. Hell, even when they don’t team up they can be, but that is the nature of a toddler. We ventured out this morning to Target and I was amazed at the looks I got. Here I am with a bulging, pregnant belly and what appears to be 2-year old twins in tow. I got a dirty look from a woman in line. The kids were really good and they actually listened to me the entire trip, so she wasn’t giving them the look. No, the look was meant for me, a 20-something with 2, almost 3, children. If I wanted to have 8 kids, it’s nobody’s damn business but mine. I got this same look the last time I watched Alli and I had to buy a shower gift in Victoria’s Secret. There I was pregnant with 2 toddlers looking at lingerie. The look I got that day was more like, “honey, I don’t think you need to be looking at this stuff- it appears you have done a good job without it.”

My first guess would be that the woman who gave you the look was dealing with infertility.

I know when we were trying to get pregnant with our first (it took 4 years), the sight of a pregnant woman with several small children in tow was enough to send me over the edge. I’m sure I made plenty of unpleasant looks in such circumstances without even being aware that I was doing so.

Just my point of view as a former IF’er.

Forgot to say that YES, you do deserve a medal for the childwatching! Awesome you and your husband are getting away soon. I am totally jealous.

    Hey Erika,

Congratulations on your second pregnancy :) I also wish Kyle’s mom a speedy recovery. Sounds like she has a lot of support and love from her family! I think of you often and hope you are well.
