Fun-filled Friday

Today was gorgeous here - 80 degrees, zero humidity, not a cloud in the sky, so how could we possibly waste a day like this? I checked the South Euclid website for the pool schedule and was pleasantly surprised to find that Bexley pool had adult/tot open swim from 10-12:30. So we hurried up and got our suits on, applied the necessary amounts of sunscreen, and packed our bag for a day at the pool. Kade was running around the house saying, “yay, pool” and clapping his hands with pure excitement. We were at the pool by 10:15 and you guessed it - no open swim, only swimming lessons. Kade was devastated and immediately started crying when I told him the pool was closed. I got pretty nasty with the teenager at the gate (must be the pregnancy hormones and screaming toddler because I am not one for any form of confrontation, but if you make my kid cry I’ll come out swinging). When she told me the website must be wrong, I told her they had better fix it because it isn’t exactly easy to get a toddler ready for the pool, get his hopes up, and then tell him sorry, it’s closed. Besides, I really wanted to sit my big, pregnant butt in some water for a few hours to relax. So, we did the next best thing - played at the playground for about an hour. Kade forgot about the pool almost immediately and was back to his old self. In order to prevent a tantrum upon leaving, I suggested we head to the pet store (the next best thing to the zoo). He almost ran to the car. We had fun checking out all the cool animals and then had lunch at the Stone Oven Bakery. By that time it was almost 12:30 and there was definitely an open swim at 1:30 so we headed home to drop off my insulin and to change Kade’s diaper. We got to the pool just as it opened and Kade was literally in heaven. He had fun splashing and swimming and just enjoying the beautiful weather. Even though everything didn’t go as planned, the day turned out to be just about perfect and full of all the things Kade loves. I even got to sit my butt in the water for a few hours and watch my little boy have the time of his life - sounds like the perfect day to me…

Sounds like a perfect day to me too, Erika. Just remember “Cleaning and scrubbing can wait till tomorrow for babies grow up we’ve learned to our sorrow…….” That was my motto for many a year and it got me through! Love you
