Fireworks

We had a very low key Fourth of July yesterday. After the frantic pace of our holiday weekend, by the time Tuesday rolled around we were all exhausted and just wanted to lay on the couch all day, which is exactly what we did. Once the laziness was out of our system, we headed over to Shaker Heights for their fireworks extravaganza. The show was to start at dusk, can someone please tell me what the hell that means? In Shaker that translates to 10:15, but I have always assumed dusk was around sundown and because of my skewed interpretation we ended up sitting and waiting for over 2 hours. Kade was unbelievably good though, so the wait wasn’t too terrible. The fireworks really were spectacular and we were so close to them that the remnants actually were falling on us (they weren’t hot, but were more like little bits of dirt). I have never had the opportunity to watch a fireworks show in such close proximity, it was amazing. Kade loved trying to name all of the colors, but they were shooting them off so fast he could hardly keep up. The twinkling ones were his favorite. Liv, on the other hand, was scared senseless by the loud booms. I have never felt her jump so much. I couldn’t help but think of what it will be like next 4th of July – sitting on our blanket with Kade and little Liv scooting all around, watching fireworks as a complete family. Every memory we make fills me with anticipation of the ones to come, the ones that will include Liv and the interaction between her and her big brother.
