Kade has been less than the model child the past few months. His screaming temper tantrums are definitely not for the faint of heart and have resulted in a number of embarassing situations that have left Kyle and I looking like the novice parents that we are. I finally took the advice of a mom I met at Kade’s art class a few months ago and ordered the book 1-2-3 Magic . She told me that it was a great method of discipline for the 2 year old age set so I was on pins and needles for the week that it took to receive my order. After a day from hell yesterday, I took my frazzled, stressed, and tired butt up to bed and promptly began reading. I can’t start the method until I finish reading the entire book, but I’m halfway through and it definitely sounds doable. At this point I am willing to try just about anything short of spanking (no offense to spanking parents out there, but it just isn’t something I want to cross over to). It has made me realize that my parenting is actually contributing to his behavior and while he’s throwing a 2-year old temper tantrum I am responding with an adult-sized one by yelling and showing just how frustrated I am. I plan on putting it into action within the next week so I’ll keep you posted on our progress. My mom and dad are thankfully picking the little stinker up on Wednesday evening and taking him to Sandusky for the rest of the week so that I can cash in on some of my nesting energy and get the house totally ready for our little princess’ arrival. Kyle’s cousin is getting married in Sandusky on Saturday so we’ll get to see him again in 2 short days . Kade will love spending time with Grandma and Grandpa and Mama and Daddy will love having some time to regroup before we become a family of four. Due to the time away though, I probably won’t start the 1,2,3 technique until next Monday when we can really focus on it. For my sanity and the sanity of our household, please keep your fingers crossed that this thing works…
