Shots Times Two

Today was Liv’s 6 week check-up, which meant shots were in our little angel’s future. I told Kade that we were taking Liv to see the doctor today, but that the visit wasn’t for him so he wouldn’t have to take his clothes off and have his heart listened to, and he definitely wasn’t getting any shots – WRONG. I lied to my son (I didn’t really lie because I had no idea he was going to get a shot, but in Kade’s eyes it was definitely a lie). The doctor said the flu shots had just come in and that he recommended Kade get his while we were there in order to avoid the annoying flu clinic lines (good for me, bad for Kade). Needless to say, Kade totally freaked when I put him on my lap so the doc could stick him, but he recovered beautifully and was walking down the hall in the matter of seconds in search of the perfect sticker (he chose a Tonka truck for himself and Barbie stickers for sis, which he stuck all over me – mostly on the back of my pants while I was getting Liv ready to leave, so he paid me back for the lie already). I was so proud of him.

Liv decided to make me feel even worse. Right before the doc stuck her with four ominous needles, she gave me her first smile/coo combo (you know, the one where your heart swells to the size of a watermelon and you vow to do whatever it takes to make it happen over and over again),and I watched in horror as her smile turned into wails of pain. Thankfully she is a tough little mama (I know, I know- a chip off the old block) and she stopped crying less than a minute later.

She is now 10 lbs 2 oz and 21 1/2 inches long (but that isn’t correct because her head was at least an inch from the top of the board the nurse used to measure her with so I’d say she’s about 20 inches tops). Breastmilk really does a body good, and boy does she love it.

I know I am very blessed to have two healthy, happy children.

Last but not least, a Kade update. We started 1,2,3 Magic last night (it’s only taken 2 months) and so far it has lived up to it’s name – magic. Of course he has whined, tantrumed (is that a word?) and acted like the normal 2-year old, but the program has given us a way to deal with it that is actually working and actually stops the behavior. Granted, it has only been a day, but this has been a good day and I will take whatever I can get…

You are one tough little cookie. Remember in high school when Mrs. G made us discsect those darn bunnies and you saved my life by being gung ho and taking charge? Unfortunately, I still wasn’t able to stomach it but your efforts were appreciated.

I’m SO glad things went well at the docs.
