This week has been a busy one in our house. On Monday I decided to bite the bullet and make the Haunted Gingerbread House that I had promised Kade almost a month ago. We started it at 9:00 and didn’t put the finishing touches on until 3 in the afternoon. Mama was exhausted, covered in black icing (which stained everything it touched), and pretty darn proud when all was said and done. Kade helped by eating as many of the candies he could get his little hands on.
I honestly don’t remember what we did Tuesday.
Wednesday we went to the farm market to get some apples, apple fritters, and a pie. Kade had his sights set on a donut, which was one of the best I have ever tasted. Thank goodness he didn’t eat it until we were in the car, otherwise I would have had to go back in and buy a dozen of those as well. Then we headed to the grocery store, so by the time we got home Liv was screaming from hunger and Kade was just plain tired. I left the grocery bags on the kitchen floor (ice cream and all) and plopped on the couch to feed Liv. She guzzled the milk so fast that she was done in 5 minutes, well one burp later and projectile vomit was covering me, Liv, and the couch. Great. I cleaned up Liv and the couch, fed Kade, put the groceries away (finally) and walked around with vomit covering my backside for a good 2 hours. Oh and did I mention that during all of this Kyle calls to tell me that he’ll be dining out at one of Cleveland’s hottest restaurants that night. His argument, it’s for work, my argument - great for me (again).
Thursday was the weekly cleaning day. Sorry I missed Thankful Thursday again, but I really haven’t been able to get a good stretch to write anything that requires thought. We ate the pie that I bought Wednesday with the salvaged ice cream and boy did I pay for that. Liv was up all night with gas. She doesn’t have the milk protein allergy to the extent that Kade did, but it definitely affects her when I overdo it. Lesson learned - no more ice cream for Mama (good for getting back into pre-prego jeans, bad for the continued post-prego cravings).
Friday was cupcake day. I asked Kade what he wanted me to decorate them with and he requested skeletons (of course) and spiders, so that is exactly what he got. He poured the oil in the mixer and I cracked the eggs and he opened them into the bowl (sorry to anyone who bites into some shell). He was Mama’s little helper, which he usually is when I do anything in the kitchen. Wouldn’t it be great if he grows up to be a chef? Lord knows how much Mama and Daddy love their food. I’m salivating at the thought…
Kyle’s dad spent the day with us after finding out that Cindy needed to be at the clinic for longer than they expected (she is doing great by the way - every day brings her one day closer to full recovery). Kade had Papa’s full attention, and I had an extra pair of hands (thank you), which allowed me to finish the cupcakes and take a glorious shower that included time for shaving (something that doesn’t happen too often- sorry Kyle). Kyle brought his mom home from the clinic after he got off work. We dined on pizza, cupcakes and pie - yum! It was a great ending to the usual busy week.
