I know that today is Thursday, and I promised a thankful update, but I have to recount today’s events instead because it is the perfect example of what it means to be a stay at home mama.
First of all, LIV IS SLEEPING IN HER CRIB!!!! We came back home Saturday night from the tree lighting downtown and she was fussy (which means she’s tired) so I laid her in her crib while I gave Kade a bath and she fell asleep and stayed asleep for a good 4 hours. I nursed her and put her back in her crib and she slept another 3 hours - AMAZING (I have slept with this baby from the day she was born and suddenly she is fine sleeping on her own). Ever since then she’s been flying solo in her crib. I am grateful that this transition was so easy, but I have to admit that I wasn’t ready for it (I secretly adored every moment of our shared nights together). Why do my kids insist on springing these changes on me with no warning?
Back to the story, Liv was hungry at 6:00 so I stumbled down to her room (I was already in there at 2:30) and made it back to my bed by 6:30 - just in time for Kade to wake up. So the day begins…
Kade and I snuggle on the couch until Kade starts demanding cartoons, and it’s trash day so I have to remove my bum from the couch before recycling picks up. Kyle wakes up, Liv wakes up, the routine gets rolling along.
We desperately needed to go grocery shopping. No fruit, no bread, and a dwindling supply of french toast sticks. Kyle left for work and I fed Kade breakfast. Liv needed to eat too, and poop. Cleaned that up. I put Liv down for her morning nap and notice that smack-in-the-face, oh-so-familiar smell so I proceed to change Kade. I put on the Wiggles and head for the shower. By the time I’m dressed, Liv’s crying - more poop. I try to brush Kade’s teeth and he excitedly tells me that he needs to go potty - I am gushing with happiness over this relatively new development. Well folks, he already went. Yep, I quickly pull down his training pants only to find what turns into a huge mess all over the bathroom, Kade and me (my fault because I literally ripped those things off so he could make it to the potty in time, joke’s on me). Once that’s all cleaned up, the three of us are dressed, shoes, coats and all - Liv’s hungry again. I drop everything to feed her and Kade patiently waits next to us on the sofa (all suited up for our trip to the store). Then I hear it - poop explosion. After yet another clothing and diaper change, we are out of the house at 11:30. It took us over 4 hours to simply get out of the house. Needless to say that by the time we got back from the grocery store, all 3 of us were exhausted.
The kids took a nap and I caught up with all the laundry and housework that resulted from the morning’s shenanigans.
Kyle comes home from work and wants to head out to the mall. Thankfully, between the two of us, it only took about an hour to get out of the house and with no poop incidents either. Thank heaven for small favors…
Oh, and as I was writing this I discovered a Kade-sized booger on the neck of my shirt, which was probably there all day - grocery store, mall and all. Great.
