Sugar high, and the lows that come with it

Yesterday, Kade and I built and decorated a gingerbread house to kick-off the holiday baking season (we still have cookies, cupcakes, and buckeyes to check off the list). I know that I am biased, but Kade is so creative (he gets that from Kyle because I am what some may call creatively challenged). I outlined the house, windows, and roof in icing and Kade decided where he wanted the candies. He was so precise with the placement of each one (he gets that from me). The only downfall was that for every candy that went on the house, two more ended up in his mouth. Kyle and I are pretty vigilant about what Kade eats, and candy is something that he only has on special occasions like Halloween and Easter so he went crazy when he had six bowls of candies placed in front of him. I let him enjoy (it is Christmas), but I paid the price. I’m going to let you picture how our evening went, I don’t even need to go into detail – sugar high. He had a difficult time falling asleep (it was after 10 before he finally zonked out), and he woke up with a less than desirable attitude (let’s just say he screamed and cried for a good 2 hours before finally settling down). I’m just grateful that it’s out of his system, at least until we get on with the rest of the baking next week.

What makes a gingerbread house a gingerbread house? Candy, of course.

Kade tries to hide his mouthful of candy.

These buttons are delicious.

I think he felt bad about biting into the gingerbread man’s head.

Liv was there too, chilling in her bouncer, chewing on her hand.

The finished product.

We made a gingerbread house a couple days after Thanksgiving and mysteriously, day by day, it has been ravaged. We’re down to the last few pieces and no one will fess up to taking the candy. I ought to put a hidden cam on the thing, it’s starting to look really pathetic.
