Liv has a nasty case of diaper rash. It started out as a small red spot and quickly developed into a bright red infiltration of her entire bottom…complete with bleeding blisters and instant tears at every diaper change. I suspected yeast because my secret arsenal of butt paste (the wonder cream) only exacerbated the problem. We went to the doctor this morning (at 9 a.m…please remind me never to schedule an appointment that early) and he thought otherwise. She’s on prescription-strength hydrocortisone cream…fingers crossed that it clears it up. I need to take a photo of our living room. The floor is covered in blankets and towels so our little nudist can air it out safely. Lord knows I’ve cleaned up enough this week.
On the way home from the appointment Kade asked me for Liv’s blanket because he was cold. It was pushing 80 degrees outside. Sure enough, he was burning up with a fever and shaking with chills. Great. How do I explain to him that we can’t go to the zoo today without leading to a 30 minute tantrum? It was a lot easier than I had thought (he really must be sick) and after a 5 minute protest, he was on the couch covered up, with that glassy-eyed, I feel like crap, please mama…make it better stare. I just hope he wakes up from his nap feeling better.
My day was brightened by a call from my endo, who informed me that I should avoid taking my mealtime dose of insulin (Humalog) at breakfast and lunch. That is, as long as I’m running on a near daily basis. This should definitely help with my post-marathon training…what better to get one out of bed at 5:00 in the morning than the thought that I could live a normal (read…non-diabetic) life for the first half of my day. I am not cured (the long-acting insulin I take before bed works to cover my first two meals and I still need a shot before dinner), but it’s nice to feel less tied down for the time being…especially as summer approaches. I’m in the honeymoon period, and until it decides to end I am going to savor every moment of sipping mai tais on the beach…

Hey! Sorry to hear about Ms. Liv. Look at the bright side, she’ll probably love running around with nothing on…as long as she doesn’t get too used to it. =) Thanks for your post on my blog. I’m definitely going to take you up on a run when you come to town sometime. But give me a month or so to try and get some form of endurance. I need to atleast be about keep up with you. Talk to you later!
