Kyle’s in Sandusky today moving his parents into their new home, and the kids and I are having a pseudo-weekday so Kade doesn’t get too upset that Daddy is MIA. Kade spends the entire week looking forward to the weekend when Daddy will be home all day. He is very attached to his father. There is this whole morning ritual they go through before Kyle can leave for work that involves multiple kisses and hugs to Kade, Liv and I (in that order), standing at the door saying “be careful…drive safe,” and watching out the window as Daddy drives off. If one step is out of place (i.e. Kyle kisses the wrong person first), Kade will become a screaming mess until all the steps are retraced in the proper order…it can be a real treat when Kyle is running late.
He has his special time with his dad at night as well. Once Liv is in bed, I usually am cleaning up and putting laundry away while Kade and Kyle have their “snuggle” time on the couch. Kade fills his dad in on his day and they read or watch “America’s Funniest Home Videos” together. Their bond is one that I can’t explain because I’ve never experienced what it means to be father and son, but I feel very lucky to be able to witness it on a daily basis. I only hope they can always be so open with each other, that Kade will be able to talk to Kyle about anything and everything, and that no matter how old he gets…Kade will always be able to kiss and hug his father.
