Getting better, but the weather isn’t

The veil of sickness is finally lifting itself off our household, but not before it claimed three out of four of us (knock on wood, Kyle). The kids have begun running around the house again, the music is once again blaring, and mama has managed to remove herself from the couch long enough to do the laundry and disinfect all exposed surfaces before daddy gets home. I haven’t run in a week, and since I was planning on tackling this 30k at the end of March…that isn’t good. I’m going to settle for running the half, but I’m not even sure if I’m ready for that.

The big snow has started and it isn’t supposed to let up until Sunday. I managed to stock up on food while Kade was at preschool this morning (everyone else in Cleveland was doing the same thing…it was crazy) and happily purchased the fixings from Alesci’s for some homemade pizza to take the chill off tonight. It wasn’t until I was unpacking the groceries at home that I realized that our oven is broken (the oven part hasn’t worked for a week, the gas burners still work but I haven’t called for repair because of the germs lingering around here…and I didn’t want to puke on the repairman as I was showing him to the kitchen), which means no tasty homemade goodness at our house tonight.

Even worse than no pizza, we (my mom/dad, sister/brother-in-law, and Kyle/I) bought my grandparents tickets to Wicked and Lola reservations/gift certificate for tomorrow night as a Christmas gift 3 months ago. I’m praying they can make it in for the show. Apparently they aren’t the only ones with this problem. My fingers are crossed that it all works out.

We have a date with the kids to go to Rock-n-Tots tomorrow afternoon to rock out in public, as opposed to our clandestine living room jam sessions. I was excited to connect with some other rockin’ mamas, have a little fun, drink some boxed wine, and just relax…but alas, I’m guessing the snow will postpone the event to another weekend (as I was linking to their site, I saw that indeed the event is canceled).

Two of my good friends and training partners have a 17 mile run tomorrow morning, and I know how hardcore these ladies are. They will be out there in the blowing snow, trying to find a path in the side of the road, weaving up and down the same neighborhood streets over and over until the last mile is completed. If I hadn’t been dealing with the virus all week, I’d be out there with them (for at least the last 10-12 miles). There is no possible way you can run 17 miles on a treadmill and get off with your sanity intact. I know how great they’ll feel when it’s all over, but it’s really going to suck in the meantime. Good luck girls.

Guess we’ll just light the fire, drink some wine (the stuff in a bottle), and watch the snow fall. Does anyone else have a feeling that there is going to be a baby boom around here in 7-9 months? Ummm…as in here, I mean Cleveland.

Snow storms plus writer’s strike equals baby boom… but not here in the Roth house.
