Reason number 11

He loaded VirtualPC onto my Mac so that I can download my sensor/pump data from Carelink. He’s so handy that way (nevermind our leaking roof, peeling house-paint and the grass that needs cut…he’s on top of the important things and that’s all that matters). I love you, honey. Thanks.

For the love of pizza

After fielding 5 phone calls pertaining to preschool registration; asking Kade to get dressed 10 times; spraying both kids down with sunscreen; packing up towels, snacks and drinks; chasing Liv through the house in a desperate attempt to get her to put her shoes on; and treating a low blood sugar that leveled me just [...]

Holes, lows, apples, and the weekend.

Swimsuit season has made me very self-aware. My stomach is disgusting. I have a tumor-like mass that hurts like hell where my last sensor was inserted  (I must have hit something and the trauma caused scar tissue to build up). There are holes all over my belly, along with scabs, scars, and rashes from my [...]

So it begins…

Tomorrow I embark on my 16 week journey to the Chicago marathon on October 12, 2008. I’ve combined three schedules into what I hope gets me a sub-4:00 finish. I had three requirements for my training plan: three 20 milers, a mid-week long run in addition to the usual Saturday long run, and one day [...]

Personal Best

We had a belated, 7th anniversary, celebratory weekend that started out with dinner at Parallax on Friday night. I got to indulge in my all-time favorite…seared scallops, drink fine wine, and completely ignore the constant beeping of my CGM telling me that my sugars were out of control. I got my long run in on [...]

Call me crazy…

but I just watched Disney’s High School Musical with Kade, and I was way too into it. In fact, I put him to bed and rushed through the routine because I didn’t want to miss anything. When I realized that I was smiling with delight during the “Soaring, Flying” number at the end, I decided [...]

Staying afloat…and awake.

I feel like I have been moving at warp speed since Saturday. I’ve been desperate for some “down-time” so I could blog, but my breaks have been filled with emails and calls to prospective and current preschool families (this registrar job is more work than I expected) and the requisite housekeeping duties that I too [...]

Charge it

Kyle and I decided to go ahead and order the continuous glucose monitoring system (CGMS) from Medtronic. After a nearly 6-month process, our insurance company finally sent word that it approved the CGMS as a “medical necessity,” which means that the $1000 purchase will count towards our $2500 deductible. Score! We knew we would reach [...]

On the track

I met my running partner this morning who gleefully (much too gleefully for 5:40 A.M.) informed me that we were heading to the track…leave it to Sarah to jump-start the interval work. I was groaning and grumbling under my breath the whole 2.5 miles to the track. We decided (after a little debate) that we [...]

All in a day

I woke up at 5 and headed out for a 5 mile run. It was a struggle. I think I’m in that “oh crap, training is starting very soon and all the joy of an easy 5-miler will be replaced by the pain of interval work and tempo runs” kind of mood. Sixteen weeks of [...]
