I met my running partner this morning who gleefully (much too gleefully for 5:40 A.M.) informed me that we were heading to the track…leave it to Sarah to jump-start the interval work. I was groaning and grumbling under my breath the whole 2.5 miles to the track. We decided (after a little debate) that we would do 2×400 and 2×800 with single lap cool-downs in between. We didn’t set a pace so this was a “let’s see how fast we can go before we run out of gas” kind of workout. After the first 400, I was feeling the high you only get from running fast. After the first 800, I was tired.
We weren’t breaking any records, but we were certainly working hard. Our 800 splits were 3:19 and 3:18…not too shabby for two ladies who plodded through the winter with no hope of any speed workouts due to the incessant snow and ice covered roads. It felt great to release. On the 2.5 mile run back home I thanked Sarah for pushing me and relished in my accomplishment and 122 blood sugar (amazing that the speed-work didn’t drop me low). We have a new summer goal…a sub 7:00 mile. That track workout really went to our heads. It was exactly what I needed to open the door and venture out on the path to Chicago…
