Swimsuit season has made me very self-aware. My stomach is disgusting. I have a tumor-like mass that hurts like hell where my last sensor was inserted (I must have hit something and the trauma caused scar tissue to build up). There are holes all over my belly, along with scabs, scars, and rashes from my tape. I’m afraid that I’m running out of room for infusion sites and sensor spots. There is no way the stomach model in the Minimed sensor photos is a diabetic, she’s missing the tell-tale red polka dots.
Despite the side-effects, the sensor is working like a charm. I took the kids to the pool this morning and it alerted me to my usual pre-lunch low so I went over and chugged a juice box, thinking that all was taken care of. About 40 minutes later the alarms started going off again and I kept cancelling them, wondering why it was telling me I was going low when I should have been fine. After the third alarm (and suspiciously tingly lips), I gave in to the finger-stick and got a 50 back. I have no idea why I was bottoming out, but I am very grateful that the sensor kept yelling at me to do something about it.
Medtronic needs to get Mac-compatible software, though, so I can look at data from events like the one above and try to make sense of it. My nurse/trainer was nice enough to meet me last night to download the data off of my pump and go over the reports generated from using the sensor (all while her husband laid in bed after having surgery the day before…she’s a saint). I have all of this information at my fingertips…I just don’t have the key to unlock it (unless I schlep myself and the two kids to Kyle’s work or my mom’s house so I can use a PC). We have three computers in this house and they all have fruit on them…get with the times people.
Looks like our Wade Oval Wednesday plans are going to be rained out, which I really don’t mind since I am beyond tired today. We are heading to Sandusky tomorrow night so I’m spending my Thursday cleaning, doing laundry and packing in preparation for the crazy weekend that lies ahead. I have tentative plans to head to Cedar Point on Thursday night with Kyle so we can actually ride something other than the carousel together. Stay tuned for a report on what effect the Top Thrill Dragster has on one’s blood sugar…(I just hope it doesn’t have an effect on my gag reflex).

I’m so with you on Medtronic getting with the times. It frustrates me that I can’t load my data from home. Don’t they know that Macs are the superior computers in this world???
Bummer about the computer compatibility problem. It’s one reason I am still unfortunately stuck in the PC world. (That, and a husband who is stubbornly anti-Mac.) So glad your sensor is helping you live a safer and freer life, though! Just awesome.
i , as well, am stuck in a pc home. (however i didn’t get the memo that they aren’t cool! jk!) you know my home is always open for u to download your info.
