The road trip is about to begin

Just a few more things to pack, a shower to take, two kids to get dressed, obsessive compulsive checking of all locks and gas-line connected objects, and we’ll be on our way. I’m going to do my best to post while we are there, but the break may get the better of me…
I have three [...]

Happy Birthday Little Sis

My baby sister turned 24 today.

She is beautiful, strong, intelligent, stylish, and perpetually 5 years younger than me. The world is at her fingertips, and I am so proud of how far she has reached to grab it.
Happy Birthday, Brittany…I can’t wait to celebrate Chicago-style.

Getting excited.

My parents were in Chicago last weekend and my mom and sister picked up this shirt for me. I’ll admit it…I’m spoiled.

It got me all excited for my upcoming Saturday, 16 miler along Chicago’s beautiful lakeshore. I needed the extra inspiration because I’ll probably be sporting a hangover, coupled with only a few short hours [...]

Pulling out the “diabetic card”

In order to bring my emergency stash of juice boxes and snacks into Lolla (even with my handy dandy sensor, I don’t go anywhere without my stash), I need a doctor’s note indicating that I have “special medical dietary restrictions.” I guess telling them that I am diabetic, lifting up my shirt to reveal tubing [...]

Falling or flying

I am an emotional runner. Hell, I’m an emotional woman. I ran the creek today and I had 5 miles to think, reflect, ponder…you name it. I was thinking about the past two years, and all we have been through. I had a bad diabetes day yesterday, so I was thinking about that too. (I [...]

Around and around and around she goes…

This was supposed to be a 16 mile Saturday, but because I really want to run the local 10 mile race in August, I rearranged things and made this a step down week to prepare for the increased mileage over the next couple weekends. So today was only 12 miles and should have been relatively [...]

My children are not vegetarians.

Here’s a transcript of a conversation I had with Kade over a roast beef lunch:
“Mom, am I eating a cow?”
“Yes, honey. You are.” (At this point I’m just hoping he doesn’t start wigging out).
“This isn’t one of the cows from the Farmpark, though…right?” (Oh lord, now he thinks he’s eating one of his beloved bovines [...]

Warning: this post contains both whining and complaining.

Before I skip off to clean toilets (now that’s something that really prevents me from spending quality time with my children, not to mention that it totally sucks), I need to vent about all that ails me at the moment.
My sugar has been low all day. I woke up at 120 and it’s been entirely [...]

I’m neglecting my children…

because I don’t serve them meals on disposable, landfill-crowding, ridiculously expensive, paper plates. Instead, I’m spending time doing dishes when I could be running through the sprinkler, painting Liv’s finger-nails, and cuddling on our porch-swing.

Are you kidding me? Let’s sell something that is bad for the environment and bad for the budget by tapping [...]

One more month…

until the blow-out, Little Mermaid, my-little-mama’s-turning-two birthday party.
Liv is 23 months old today and there are still moments during every single day that I look at her and see my baby despite the fact that she is swiftly becoming my big girl. The sound of her voice literally melts my heart, and she successfully uses [...]
