One tired mama.

It’s been a long day and because of our overnight drama (more on that later) I didn’t run this morning. Running at night always wears me out so I’m going to retire to the couch, turn my brain off and watch DVR’d Heroes. Goodnight.

It’s official.

I am a raging lunatic.
My confirmation booklet for the Chicago Marathon just came in the mail, and I started to cry as I was reading through it. The tears didn’t come from reading an inspiring story or from information about charity runners…no, my tears came from looking at the course map.
I have officially lost my [...]

Thinking ahead…way ahead.

In a wine-induced stupor last night, I registered for the May 3, 2009 Pittsburgh Half Marathon, which is finally back after a 6 year hiatus. It will keep me training over the winter, and it will get us back to the city so close to our hearts for a weekend. I predict that it will [...]

Let the taper begin…

Friday night my throat was scratchy, swollen and sore, my cold had moved down into my chest and I was coughing and sniffling and wishing that my body would stop aching so I could get some rest. I found myself googling “running 20 miles while sick” to see just how bad of an idea my [...]

Long day.

I ran my 20 miler in record time (3:00:59). I went with the family to Cedar Point (we were there 6.5 hours…my legs are very pissed at me). I am finally home. The kids are in bed. I am beyond exhausted, and my awesome husband has just poured me a nightcap. I promise I will [...]

Perfect timing.

I have my third and final 20 mile training run in the morning and I feel miserable. I have absolutely no idea how I am going to get through it. And if I do somehow manage to get the miles in, I have absolutely no idea how I am going to get through an entire [...]

Sometimes running, motherhood and diabetes don’t mix.

I woke up at 5:00 this morning to run 8 miles. At this point in marathon training, my body is spent. I’m sore.  I’m tired. I’m ready for my taper. Despite all of that, the run went well. I managed to safely navigate the dark, storm ravaged streets and make it home (I cannot believe [...]

Finding my way…

I’ve trained for two marathons, which adds up to a lot of miles…most of which were run on my neighborhood streets. I’ve run down nearly every side street in both Lyndhurst and South Euclid. Hell, I’ve done a tour of Cleveland, Cleveland Heights, South Euclid, Lyndhurst, and Mayfield Heights in a single run before. Running [...]

Two down…one to go

My marathon training schedule had three 20-milers on it and I’ve successfully finished two of them, which means I’m two weeks to taper and the season is quickly coming to a close. The best part is that at the end of both of my 20 mile runs I could have kept going (make no mistake…I [...]

R.I.P dear insulin pump

For the first time in over a year, I am typing this post without having a medical device attached to my stomach. I am completely, involuntarily untethered and it feels both wonderful and strange. My pump decided to malfunction as I was bolusing for my dinner tonight. I had just run 8.5 miles, which included [...]
